Happy Holidays!!

Happy Holidays all!

I am still working on a few last minute Christmas decorations.... Lola and Abby's stockings still need to be finished. I am hosting Christmas breakfast at my house this year. If it works out well I may be doing it every year. This year I am doing a waffle bar. There will be pecans, bananas, strawberries and chocolate chips, to make your own special Christmas waffle. I even got a mini waffle iron, just incase you can't commit to a large waffle. Can you tell I love waffles.... almost as much as I love hosting friends and family!

I will post pics, the day after Christmas.

Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas!

Trying my hand at painting.

I have always wanted to paint, but have been terrified of it. Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet, put my fears aside and, paint. I started out with something very simple.... and I loved it!

A black heart on a tan background...

Ignore Abby's kennel on the side...

WIP.... The "Hudson" Blanket and Rocket onesies!

This morning was quite a productive one. The little monters, a.k.a. Abby and Lola, went to the vet this morning. Abby hid under a chair the entire time. After leaving the vet, we all went though the drive through at the bank. Which freaked Abby out, prompting her to jump from the backseat to the tiny space under my legs.... you know, the space where the gas pedal is... and lay on the pedal. Thank goodness that as soon as she jumped over, I threw the car in park, so by the time she managed to wedge herself on the gas pedal, the car wasn't going to go anywhere. I immediately turned of the car flew open the door and coaxed her back into the backseat. After that adventure, I managed to make it home and start a few new things for the shop. One is an adorable blanket named for my best friends nephew, Hudson, the other is something I have never done before, appliqued onesies! The set will be a onesie and a matching burp cloth.

The blanket and matching bib are pinned inside out, the colors are much richer that pictured here. I am toying with adding a few washcloths to the onesie set, but haven't decided on that yet...

Tomorrow morning after yoga and a quick haircut, this will get finished a photographed (weather permitting). I am hoping to have them added to the shop by tomorrow, Wednesday at the latest.

'Cause big dogs need love too!!!

I have two big ol' dogs.... A black and tan Doberman and a black Lab, Lola (Dobe) and Abby (Lab).
Lola loves to wear collars. On many occasions she'll wear more than one, because if you buy a new one she jumps up and down until you put it on her... even though she already has one on. She prances around the house in her two collars... it's really quite hilarious.
When I lived up north (Portland, ME), I had no problem finding cute inexpensive collars for her.
(she was the only dog I owned at the time). However, when I moved back home (New Orleans), it was much more difficult to find cute collars, that didn't cost an arm and a leg.
So you know what I did???

I made them myself!

Aren't they cute?!?! I am considering opening a second Etsy shop for them.

Yesterday, I made a list of things that I needed to accomplish today... and while I didn't get everyting done, I did manage to get a few things accomplished.

The Whales are finished! After waiting so patiently on my cutting table, the "Whale Bib and Burp Cloth Set" is complete! I haven't listed it yet in the shop. Hopefully I'll have it up by tomorrow.

Isn't it so cute, you could just eat it up?!?!? I love the green water swirls coming out of the spout. It's hard to see in the pic, but they're there... and they're cute!

I managed to email Celeste from "Etsy it Up", the pics and description for the "Birds of a Feather" giveaway. I am in love with how colorful this set is. Also, the washcloths aren't my typical washcloths.... they're large washcloths. Each washcloth measure about 2.5 inches bigger than the regular washcloths. I listed the set in the shop this evening.

Where to begin......

These past few months have been.... exhausting, draining, challenging..... all seem to be words that fit.

In August I put Paputsi, on a shelf, to focus on caring for my ultra-sweet ailing grandmother. I managed to create a few new things.... but not nearly what I would need to do in order to grow the business the way I would like to. I gladly shelved everything for Maw Maw. She was quite possibly the sweetest woman anyone has ever had the pleasure to meet. Two days before Thanksgiving, she passed away.

So now.... here I am after 4 months of not working, finding myself back in the studio. It has been a difficult transition to make. To go from spending all free time caring for a person who spent your formative years caring for you, to now having time on your hands again... has been challenging, to say the least. To help with the transition. I have decided to post my goals and current projects here. I will make myself accountable to all of you in blogland, with the hopes that it will help get me back on track.

Here goes.....

Everyday, I plan on creating something new... be it sewing, sketching, brainstorming.... something needs to be done EVERYDAY. (i figured if I put in all caps and italics I would be more inclined to do it... whatever works, right?) If I am gonna be bigger than Martha Stewart (yes, I aim high!) I gotta get to work!

Soooooo... what's next on the Paputsi list????

~ Finish the "Whales".

I have the cutest design, you ever did see, sitting on my craft table..... waiting.... they've been so patient. Everything is cut and pinned, just waiting to be sewn. Patiently, waiting. So tomorrow, they will get sewn, AND photographed (weather permitting).

~ Cowboy Blanket with navy minky back.

The cowboy blanket in the shop is so popular, I would like to offer another version of it. So far it looks like it'll be super cute...

~ Email photos for the "Etsy it Up" Giveaway.

Celeste at Etsy it Up has been kind enough to host a giveaway. We started planning this before Maw Maw got sick, and she has been so patient and kind, while I have been dealing with everything. Thank heaven for folks like her.

As I get things photographed, I'll post them... Hopefully, my new outlook will not only help to grow my business into something successful, but also something my Maw Maw would be proud of.

BopBop Designs....

I found this super cute site on Esty, selling hand painted canvases. These would make a great baby shower gift!

Here are two of my favorites...

Check out her esty shop http://www.bopbopdesigns.etsy.com/.

Shop update!!!

Just updated the Etsy shop with these two new blankets. Cute, huh?

I am considering changing the backround color on my photos, from white to black. The two new blankets I listed were photographed on both black and white backgrounds. I posted the pictures with the black background, while I try and figure out which one I like best.... decisions, decisions.

What do you think? Which background do you prefer?

What a beautiful day!!!

Finally, the beautiful fall weather has arrived in New Orleans! Two days ago, it was so hot and humid, it was just miserable. I took the dogs for a walk and then gave them a bath in the backyard..... horrible to say the least! I was a sweaty mess by the time it was all done. I was tempted to turn the hose on myself to cool off. The dogs, however, loved it. The cool water was a nice break from the almost 90 degree heat.

So when I woke up yesterday to cool weather, I was beyond excited. I didn't even mind that it was overcast and drizziling.... Imagine my glee when I woke up today, and the sun was shining and a very cool breeze was blowing. I have never been so excited to put on a jacket. I even needed my heater on in the car during the drive to work. Barely controlling my excitment folks!!!

Of course I will be indoors for most of the day and a bit of tomorrow as well, tackling the mountain of sewing that needs to be done, but I don't mind a bit. I am planning on going for a run in the morning and then bouncing back and forth between my grandmother's house and the sewing room for the rest of the day.

The new items for fall are nearing completion. I hope to have them posted and listed in the Etsy shop by Monday... Tuesday, at the latest...

'till then..... I'm off to enjoy this wonderful weather!

Shop update!!!

I just listed a super cute bib and burp cloth set... Birds of a Feather...

I have been away from the shop, taking some time out to take care of my grandmother. I amhappy to say that I am back in the shop working on new fall items. I missed being away from the studio. It wasn't until I went back, that I realized how much I needed the creative outlet, especially during this stressful time in my life. So here is my latest creation. Hope you like it!

Yesterday, I closed the doors to the cart in the Riverwalk. Well, technically the cart doesn't have doors.....but you know what I mean. I decided to focus on selling my baby items online and wholesale, in order to do this, I needed to close the cart. I will miss my little cart, I met some wonderful people while sitting in the middle of the mall, got great feedback on my products.... and of course, got to listen to songs about fudge!!!!! I am sad and excited about turning this corner.
As usual I will continue to keep you posted about the goings on, in my little business.... I am adding a new product to the line today... hopefully. Shop update is scheduled for tomorrow...

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Hello, hello, hello....

It's been a week since my last post... in my defense, I have been pretty busy! This past week must have been "You ship, right?" week. I have never had so many people stop by the cart and ask for me to ship them items! I'm not complaining... I loved it. I sold stuff without depleting inventory from the cart! The best of both worlds.... So this past week I was sewing my little heart out... and making many trips to the Post Office. Inbetween sewing and shipping I managed to make a few new items for the cart. Washcloths in Cowboy print (set of 3), Minky washcloths in pink and yellow (set of 3), minky washcloths in white and blue (set of 3), and a super cute pink and chocolate brown lovey...... and I don't have pictures of any of it! I made them at night, and I like to photograph during the day (I find the best time is between 2 and 3pm). I could have waited and photographed the next day, but i was anxious to get them on the cart. I guess I'll just have to make more, and remember to take pictures....

I did, however, manage to list the cowboy blanket in "baby" size. The blanket was only available in "toddler" size previously.

This weekend is the Jazz Fest, in New Orleans.... Good food, good music, good times with friends.... that is, if I wasn't stuck working the cart. For those of you who are fortunate enough to make it, please eat a piece of crawfish bread for me.... and wash it down with strawberry lemonade!

I have been asked to participate in a giveaway on the blogs Etsy It Up and The Shopping Mama!

These two blogs have teamed up to host a bag themed giveaway called "It's in the bag"! The gieaway will feature bags (baby bags and diaper bags) and bag stuffers.... like my blankets! I am giving away the "Stripes Baby Blanket".

Life at the cart....

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have a cart in the Riverwalk Mall. It's on the third floor, about three stores down from "The Fudgery". The Fudgery is the reason for this post....

The Fudgery is a store that, as the name suggests, makes and sells fudge. Not only do they make an sell fudge.... they also sing about it. Yes, folks.... sing... loudly. They take popular songs and change the lyrics to make them about fudge. For exmple..
Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovey" is now "Isn't Fudge Lovely"....
Tina Turner's " What's Love Got to Do with It" is now "What's Fudge Got to Do with It"....
Tina and Ike's "Rolling on the River"..... Rolling at the Fudgery".....
Queen's "We are the Champions"..... "We've Got Free Samples".....
The Temptation's "My Girl".... "My Fudge"

The list goes on and on.....
I like to have impromptu concerts for my friends... so they can feel at least a smidgen of the pain I feel when working the cart... It's not all that bad atually. I often find myslf singing along with the folks that work around me. Maybe I should start singing about baby blankets.....?

Aaaahhhh.... Life at the cart....

It's been a long time....

...since my last post.

I had a very relaxing Easter weekend. Most of my family was out of town, so my little cousin and I sent a glorious day bonding at the grocery store. I recommend this to anyone who despises going to the grocery store as much as I do. She loaded and unloaded the cart.... and put the groceries up once I got home!!!!! Not to mention she was wonderful company whilst shopping.

Other than going to the grocery store, I spent the rest of my time working orders that need to be shipped, restocking the cart and coming up with new product ideas. New ideas should be completed and photographed soon.

I am "planning" a shop update for Thursday. I'll keep you posted.

hellooooo...

Today got off to a slow start... and I loved every bit of it! Lounged around a bit, feed the dogs, and now it's time for work...

Items need to be sewn... orders need to be shipped... sketches need to be refined... then off to the Riverwalk for 2 whole hours.... phew... what a day. ;-)

Good news... I get to have dinner with real live grown ups tonight! After being cooped up with the dogs, I am looking forward to being with humans tonight. I love my dogs and all, but their conversation skills are lacking....

My lovely pups! Caught Lola blinking.... she doesn't normally look this disgruntled!

New Idea Thursday...

It's Thursday, and that means it's time to work on new ideas...

Last night I couldn't sleep, so I stayed up sketching until 3 am... and now with those lovely ideas resting comfortably on paper and/or fabric, I can move on to other new ideas...

Lots to do today.
Need to finish up a big order...
Get working on a new order...
Make the new stuff....
Do more of the same for the cart (mainly bllankets)...
Find time to wash hair and do laundry.

Ready.. Set.. Go.

Well... I have been a wee bit busy these last two days trying to complete a wholesale order.... and while sewing away on that order I managed to make two new blankets to post to Etsy. One isn't exactly new, just never been photographed. The other is brand-spankin' new!
More new stuff to come soon....

Greetings....

.... I am very new to the world of blogging, and don't know what I am doing exactly, but I figured it is worth a shot. Mostly I'll write about the goings on in my little company, Paputsi. I make handmade baby gifts, such as bibs, burp cloths and blankets. Hopefully new items that I am working on will be popping up soon on my Etsy page and on my cart in the Riverwalk Mall.... and I will tell you all about it here... in my blog.

Here goes nothing..... :-)
